Sangria recipe – start your summer now

A carafe filled with fresh fruit pickled in sangria. In front of it a glass of sangria garnished with an apple fan and a slice of orange. Our Sangria recipe.

This time we have a very tasty summer cocktail for you. This Sangria recipe creates the perfect drink that will remind you of your vacation in Spain. You can almost imagine yourself lying next to a pool with a glass of sangria in your hand or hear the sea roaring.

We had also already prepared this drink at a party. The big idea was not shake a new cocktail for each guest, but have something prepared in larger quantities, so everyone serves himself. This worked really well with the sangria. We used a 5L container for punch, which we simply filled to the top. This resulted in a very relaxed evening for us, as hosts of the party.

As you can imagine, we had to try the sangria a few times before we would serve it at the party :). We also did a lot of research about which wine fits well in the sangria. To our surprise, there are actually big differences! Make sure that the chosen red wine is not matured in the barrel for too long. The ideal red wines are Merlot, Trollinger, Chianti, Beaujolais, Portada Tinto and sweet port wines from Portugal, as well as Tempranillo from Spain. Our favorite choice was a semi-dry Tempranillo red wine.

For those who are interested, there is also white sangria. This is prepared – who would have thought it – with white wine. We have also tried that variation, but we didn’t like the white wine version. So we will just stick to the red Sangria. 🙂

One special ingredient in this sangria recipe is the Licor 43! If you want to try other recipes with Licor 43, you can try the coconut-passionfruit cocktail. This sangria recipe is our variation of the red sangria 43.

  • 125 ml Licor 43
  • 35 ml Brandy
  • 30 ml Orange liqueur e.g. Angel d'Or
  • 1 Cinnamon stick
  • 2 Oranges
  • 1 Apple

  • Wash and chop the fruits
  • Add sliced fruit, cinnamon stick and ice to the carafe
  • Pour red wine, liqueur, brandy, orange liqueur into carafe and stir
  • Fill with orange lemonade and stir again

Notes

  • The sangria tastes best when it is left to infuse for a few hours. The fruits will also taste much better then. 🙂
  • The right choice of red wine makes a big difference here!
  • The sangria can also be prepared very well beforehand. If you have many guests coming, this is a really big advantage.
  • You can also use Cointreau instead of the Angel d’Or orange liqueur, but then rather use less, because Cointreau contains more alcohol!
