Pina Colada recipe – Smooth perfection
Oh dear people…long, long have we been tweaking our recipe for the perfect Pina Colada. We tried different types of coconut milk and many recipes were discarded again. But now we have found a recipe that we are very happy with. Let us know your opinion about it!
Everyone knows the Pina Colada. It is one of the classic cocktails and is served in almost every bar. Mostly however, it tastes a little different in every bar or sometimes even quite artificial. We really like to drink Pina Coladas and have often tried to find a good recipe. At first, we tried different types of coconut milk. This sometimes resulted in unsightly flakes forming when we chilled the drink. But an unchilled Pina Colada is not very nice either. Another recipe was needed.
Finally, we found a recipe for a Virgin Colada (Pina Colada without alcohol) that tasted really good and was then modified by us into the alcoholic version. After a little fine tuning, it was finally done: our perfect Pina Colada recipe! Wonderfully creamy and a good balance between pineapple and coconut. You can taste the alcohol well, but it’s not too strong. We are extraordinary fans of this blend.
By the way: If you are thinking about getting extra coconut puree or maybe you already got some, try the coconut-passionfruit cocktail with licor 43. It’s a great drink for Pina Colada lovers.
How to open a coconut for a Pina Colada?
Oh well…the coconut. Have you ever tried to open a coconut? It’s not that easy…so we watched a tutorial video and then tried it ourselves. It worked reasonably well, but please watch your fingers!
- The coconut has three darker dots on one side. You drill 2 holes in these “eyes” of the coconut. You can do this with a screwdriver, for example, which you either drill very patiently or with a screwdriver that you hammer impatiently into the coconut.
- Once you have fumbled the screwdrivers out of the holes again, you can pour out the coconut water into a bowl. If you don’t have any coconut water, the coconut probably was a bit older.
- Now you can patiently and carefully hit the coconut with a hammer. Eventually it will give way and you will have two halves, as in our picture. =)
Conclusion
To keep track of all our drinks, you’ll find our own personal opinion here. We are using a rating between 0 and 10, where 10 is absolutely delicious and 0 would be a utter disappointment. For the cocktails and mocktails we rate the look and tasty of the drink. Keep in mind, this is just our personal opinion and should just be a rough outline for you. Give it a try and let us know if you liked it!
